Happy Birthday BONG

Today, I went to the National Library for some book exchange thing.
Hoards of bookworms, excluding me of course, occupied the cramp empty space outside the library
anyway, I don't really like reading books,
especially thick ones, unless I have a vested interest in it.
Hate books!

Yea, so after that went shopping with my mum,
trying to find a school bag for myself.
actually, it was my mum following me,
but anyway, we walked raffles city, citylink, Suntec City, Millenia Walk (oops my spelling FAIL, as usual) and Marina Square.
At the end of the day, we bought a grant total of NOTHING!
haha
Couldn't find the bag that I wanted.
It's so difficult to find a deuter bag nowadays.
Of all the places we went, I only saw it once, at Suntec Carrefour, but it didn't have the colour I wanted
Any suggestions where to find a yellow/orange deuter bag?(price must be 2 digit)

iPod Touch 8GB - $300+
I think I will wait for my birthday money for that.
quite tempting though.

OMG!!!!
The long awaited day has finally arrived!!!
PW results release!
Hahaha, I'm so happy today!!!
My moodiness for the pass few days have totally disappeared

But I guess I was rather insensitive to those who were around me
I mean I was super happy cos it was 200% unexpected
but I guess I could have controlled myself better
The feeling sucks
when not everyone gets good grades
It greatly reduces your level of happiness when you are cheering and someone is crying

In fact, this incident has led me to ponder,
are good results all I want for A levels?
or do I want the whole class, or even the whole school to do well?
Perhaps the whole school's results would not be in my control
but I believe that 1209 can be the top class of 2009!

I would like to thank Ms Huang for her guidance in the past year.
I admit that if it wasn't for her strict standards of us,
our class would not have achieved so many A's
In fact, I think that most, if not all, the credit should go to her.
PW has taught me many things...
PW ftw!!!

Now I am more motivated than ever to chiong for A levels...
Yippee!

Woah hoho!
I finally found some time to blog again.
It has been some time since my last blog post.
hmm, let me see what has happened since then.

Lets start with today!
Today is Good Friday!
3 day break from school,
Who doesn't love it?

I have been dota-ing rather intensively recently.
It appears that my "quit dota" plan,
not only didn't work,
it totally backfired
haiz...

Yesterday was April Fools day!
The day when April fools are born.
and it so happens that Travis is an April fool!
hahaha
Happy Birthday Travis!

March ended rather quickly,
and here comes April!
the month of the PW results RELEASE!
omg! can't wait to see the fruit of 1 whole year of labour.
(yea, I was pregnant)

anyway, 3 birthdays are coming up,
which means another wave of cashflow issues
at least for people like Nick Chaim,
who is addicted to borrowing money from people.

Signed up for the EDB VJC Symposium,
but didn't get in...
nevermind, I was half hearted during the auditions anyway,
and there was tough competition from people from the Arts Stream.
Not to mention JOY,
which brings Nick much JOY,
since he got into the symposium together with her haha

Char Yong Cup I got 8th place!
omg I still can't believe what a miracle it is!
drawing 4 games and ending with a total score of only 4,
how in the world did I manage to get 8th place!
hahaha, must thank Yi Hao for chopping all the strong players up there.
and me, happily killing from the bottom.
erm, I mean, drawing...
Haha, but its still a deprovement (no such word) from last year though
from 6th place to 8th place.
of course Yi Hao got champion after killing everyone on top
and it seems like he is going to represent Singapore in Chinese Chess in some international competition.

So sad Char Yong Cup had to clash with the long planned OGL outing
in the end only 6 people went for it though.
sad sad sad.
Audrey still called me in the middle of the competition to ask me if I wanted to join them.

We had a great farewell meal with her on tuesday after our e learning at Shokudu at Raffles City.
after the meal, which was expensive,
( I preferred that we go buffet :P)
we went to lepak!
8 people cannot decide on what to do...
divided between pool, bowling, movie, lan, going home...
in the end we walked all the way to Marina Square,
to eat desserts
then JooFei enlightened me on why I should eat dessert
(even though I didn't eat it in the end)
it's because the opposite of desserts is stressed
so we should est dessert to destress...
Anyway when I came home after that,
I was dead beat!
went to sleep right away...
though I still felt sleepy the next day.

This week only had 2 days of school,
since Monday, Tuesday were for elearning and friday is very good
haha.
some time to catch up on revision of my subjects.
though rather unsuccessful,
due to distractions such as dota...
muahaha

Wow the holidays are already ending
Productivity was at an all time low.
(Not that productivity was high in the 1st place anyway)

Nat's birthday just passed a few days ago.
We bought for him a bear head.
we as in the people who actually went shopping for it ie. Nick, Sze Howe and I
actually don't know why so random.
we just walk into Minitoons and saw sometime that all of us agreed on.
haha is no link.

Anyway, speaking of birthdays,
Today is Candy and Andy's Birthday!
I's super duper sorry that I couldn't get anything for them.
at least for today I hope.
But I also don't know what to buy for them C(andy)^2 too haha
Don't you think that it is so coincidental that 2 people with totally different backgrounds,
have almost the same name???
maybe its the date 19 March.
very "andy"-ish.

The pass few days have been a killer for me.
but I'm glad that I survived so far.
It's not the tutorials, the extra lessons, or the homework that is tough.
(In fact I haven't finish most of my homework hehe^^)
but its the non-stop concurrent competitions
2 chess competitions all in one holiday!

Thursday and Friday have Hwa Chong Cup.
I'm kind of glad that it is finally over.
Actually I'm quite happy with myself.
I won all the games at the Hwa Chong Cup.
And with some team effort,
we got a second place.

I wasted 2 days of completing homework for a second place! :(
what high opportunity costs.
Hwa Chong Team A won 1st place
and gave the challenge trophy back to themself.

Sometimes I feel that I would go broke if I had bought every single person presents for their birthdays.
It is a worrying phenomenon, especially for my pocket.

Friday was the day for the release of the A level results for the batch of 2008.
It was also the day which my Chinese A level results were made known to me.
I scored a B grade for the overall grade and Merit for my oral examination.
Actually, I am rather satisfied with my results.
I wouldn't say that it is very good, but I highly doubt it is worth retaking since I dare say that I tried my best for that examination.
A bunch of other people got 'A's.
Actually, it is quite a handful.
Weijie Yihao Nick Jacq Huiying Eugene, just to name a few.
Of course there is always the 'B' club, with people like me haha, but too lazy to remember.
Who remembers 'B's anyway???
Anyway the results for Project work would be out soon.
Perhaps I didn't feel the stress of not getting A for Project Work last year.
But I definitely feel the stress of it now.
I hope and fear for the day of the release of the Project Work results.

Chemistry Periodicity test got 8/25
and Physics ain't going to be pretty either
perhaps this is a persistent characteristic of me
I seriously need a wake up call at the start of every year
hope its not too late

Last but not least...
Ms Ma is leaving the teaching profession...
:( so sad huh...
when we first knew about it
I heard many ppl cried
I was sad la, but didnt cry
No one wanted her to leave,
but she says its cos of her health problems...
sounded rather serious,
cos she decided to resign even after she got promoted to subject head this year
All we could do is wish her farewell and get well soon

Today is the 1 month anniversary of deleting garena from my computer...
Having a internal dilemma right now...
Have been feeling rather stressed recently...
Funny leh...
I don't know whether it is because of the load of accumulated homework due to orientation...
or because of my so-called abstinence from dota...

Yet...
I know that somewhere inside me I don't want dota to take over my life...
I can do okay even when playing dota...
but, I know I will definitely do even better without it...
or at least that is what I want to believe...
In terms of school results I mean...

Haha I almost wanted to download garena again...
but then I thought about what Travis told me a month ago...
that I would definitely start playing again in 2 months...
(we even wagered 10 cents haha)

Tritone is the CHAMPION HOUSE OF AJC ORIENTATION 2010!!!
OMG!!!
after a grueling 3 days of orientation,
after 3 days of non-stop cheering and dancing,
Tritone has emerged VICTORIOUS!!!

Haha orientation has left me with a cough and a pile of homework!
But also lots of new friends :D
wouldnt miss orientation for anything! (except a levels :X)

Went to see my grandmother at St Joseph Home in Jurong on Sunday
Her hands were cold...
She laid in a crouched position on the bed...
I think she could barely see what was in front of her...
and even though we kept repeating our names to her,
She did not respond...
her eyes stayed ever so focus at the ceiling above...
I felt...
sorry for her...

But then another old lady on the bed beside hers soon revealed to us
that she was not always like that...
she would still resist the nurses that tried to feed her...
she would shout in frustration, " Don't want!"
It is very sad to be tortured by "lao ren chi dai zheng"...

Welcome to the VERY 1ST SCHOOL DAY OF 2010!!!
WOHOO!
surprisingly i was able to wake up on time and reached school on the dot...
the monday timetable rocks man!
many many many breaks
love it :)
its mainly because some people dropped H2 to become H1
perhaps a blessing in disguise hehe^^
anyway was able to sleep during the 2 hour break before PE
got back my much needed energy to survive 2010 PE lesson number one!
was grouped with 2409, MY OG!!!! WOHOO!!!

for becoming the Subject Head for Chemistry!!!
yay we have a subject head as our tutor :P

Tritonians of the world UNITE!

The OGL workshop was super fun!
This year's orientation would be so much more fun than last year haha
except that it will be shorter :(
3 days instead of 5 days
omg! have to high 3 whole days hahaha

like during the flag design,
keep arguing about whether the eel that we draw should have pokkadots...

Anyway, yesterday was the first time i discovered that nippon (yellow) paint can actually corrode plastic cups
o.o so dangerous lol
and the ajc cleaners were like all frantic about paint spills on the floor...
cos the plastic cups that were used to hold the paint would eventually corrode at the base, leaking out all the paint
they must have 25 years of experience dealing with crazy people like us trying to paint flags...
that explains the scars of paint all over the ajc compound haha

Overall, the only complaint i would have about the OGL workshop is the FOOD!

Anyway, 2010 has been pretty great so far...

January 1, 2010.
Totally missed watching the fireworks!
OMG
was at home watching the television channel 8
I thought that channel 8 would also show us the fireworks...
but apparently not!
so I had to spend the first few minutes of 2010 watching fann wong singing...
eeww... haha

Got a new computer table on New Years Day!
wohhooo!
because my home's old computer table was rather old...
all metal was rusting and the wooden table top was smiling haha
It was also on the verge of collapse,
like if u hit it on the sides too hard it would sway like a pendulum..
anyway,
we, as in me, my mum and my dad,
went to IKEA Tampines to search for our new table...
Spent dunno how many hours deciding like which combination to take, what colour, etc...
We finally decided on this black table with black legs and a white CPU holder...
looks super cool i think haha
like those showroom type
simplistic, yet modern looking lol
IKEA furniture are all DYI
so we spent 1 entire night fixing it up!
what an accomplishment right? hahaha

Its been SUPPPPPERRRR Longggg since i blogged...
hmm, lemme see...

6 dec
Went for the standard charter marathon!!!!
completed 9 grueling hours of the adrenaline pumping race!
AS A VOLUNTEER!!!

Actually i shld start from the night of 5 december
we met at yishun at 9pm and went to play lan all the way till 11.30pm
haha we went to this super lousy lan shop
which has ancient computers
u know those fat fat monitors and mouses with balls?
it dint even have internet
so obviously it didnt have the latest maps
we were playing versions of the map even before i started playing
they even had dota version 1.04!!!!
and the AIs were super retarded...
they can only attack a sandking casting epi and not run away even after casted

anyway, we took a bus to padang at 12am...
stoned till 5am
1st guy arrives at my spot at 6.30am
super fast sia,
i was at likke 30+++ km liao
other than that, the rest of the marathon was rather monotonous
directing runners right and left according to half and full marathon...
in the end we decided to blast some music to cheer on the runners
and also to entertain ourselves haha
saw huishan and nick at the race too!!!

its like the center of everything

the mrt ride to and from jurong east was looooong and painstaking!
going there was not so bad, because i had company,
but the return trip was torturous...
1stly because the jurong east station train doors open on both sides...

1st we had to stone in the amk library for dunno how long...

waiting for the second group...

anyway, we soon took the mrt to bedok,

looking for bus 401 at bedok interchange,

only to realise that it only operates on weekends...

in the end we took 196 or 197 i think,

forgot liao...

then we stop in front of this blue condo like building...

because no taxi driver was willing to fetch bicycles in their boot...

haha, the feeling of being interviewed by students felt super weird
especially when your interviewer is your fren...
somemore, he act serious, ask "so you are guojie rite?"
was LMAOing, though i tried to control myself...
I hope i pass the interview...

anyway, i feel quite happy nowadays...
maybe its because I'm the top 27 in AJ!
wonder how my frens in other schools are being owned...
haha thats all i can do to console myself for coming to AJ...

But then again, all tbhis would not have happened if i didnt drop Higher Chinese in Sec 3...
utterly regret now...
but people wont understand until they regret it...
so many people in my class want to drop econs...
i mean, if you are forced to drop then its ok,
but you shouldnt drop any subject if you dun have to...
some people say that cannot compare chinese with econs,
because chinese got use but econs no use...

econs no use?
then why take econs in the 1st place???
by taking all H2, you are giving yourself a choice...
a chance to downgrade the lowest scoring subject...
econs may be bad now, but it might be different at the A Levels...
then if some other subject becomes worse,
arent you discounting yourself by not giving yourself a chance to downgrade that worse subject?
somemore, seniors have said that people who even fail AJ econs can gt A at A lvls...

Then H1 and H2 econs the gap very BIG
more emphasis on case study and less on essay...
content oso cut in half...
BUT
just like for chinese and higher chinese...
i feel that after awhile you will feel that the difference is not that big...
you will feel that you can study equally as hard, get a better grade,
but in terms of rank points, a H2 C grade is better than a H1 A grade...

Furthermore, dropping 1 subject means increased stress on your other subjects?
now you must get better grades more than ever when you drop a subject...
Also, dropping one subject doesnt necessarily mean that you will do well in it...
but it means that now you only have 1 path, you must do well in ALL your subjects...
to be comparable to people who take all H2...

I'm not discriminating against people who drop econs...
but i feel strongly against it...
against the voluntary dropping of the subject...
or of any subject in that matter...
Must think rationally when considering matters of such grave importance...
dun make hasty decisions like me and live to regret later on...

The September Holidays have been rather boring...
Mainly because my dear brother and mother caught this stupid irritating troublesome virus known as H1N1...

cos was in a rush to go back to school...

its a typo error actually,

somehow, this week feels like its moving super slowly...
Its a feeling thats hard to describe...

perhaps its because of my brother's exams this week that keeps me away from my dota...
or maybe its that i have been thinking about many things lately...
the promotional exams are coming up...
everyone (almost) is starting their gear...
But thats not the problem...
I was never really extremely worried about promos anyway...
I'm quite sure that i would manage at least an E grade for all my subjects...
that should be enough to bring me to J2...
But should i be aiming higher?
I really don't know...
aim for a H3 next year?

whats the use?
waste effort only...

cant help but feel super unlucky recently...
things have not been going smoothly...

Actually now Project work and Chinese A levels are my main concerns...

a pass is good enough for me...

I guess I am now officially a centenarian...

Perhaps everything that happened in my life in AJC would not have happened...
Only if I had chosen to take higher chinese back in sec 4...
I would not had even come to AJC...
Yes, But after all thats happened...
is coming AJC really a bad thing?
perhaps it was fate,
I was meant to come to AJC...
My life would have been so different...
But who knows if it was better than now?

Coming to AJC wasnt such a bad thing afterall...
at least i need not take 1 hour rides everyday to and from school...
At least I can relatively be more slack...
or perhaps I'm just saying these things to comfort myself...

Coming to AJC has taught me something...
to accept fate...
I have learnt to let fate decide things...
because hard work is merely a catalys,
but fate is wad decides things that happen...
no amount of hard work can change what is meant to happen...

So moral of the story is don't try too hard,
If its meant to be it will happen,
it will eventually happen...
Once you have accepted my hypothesis,

Actually, I enjoy my life in AJC now...

Yesterday was a super tiring day sia!!!
Played everything playable lol

Morning: Badminton + Table Tennis
Played badminton in the morning
Cos had to organise interhouse games badminton for boys...
together with Sivah and HuiYing,
too bad Estee can't come cos she had debate competition...
Actually organising was quite boring actually...
so boring that we ended up playing badminton lol...
Played table tennis also,
because there were like only 4 ppl who joined the interhouse table tennis lol...
So there were actually many tables free

Congrats to adwin and team for winning 3rd place for interhouse soccer!

Afternoon: Soccer + Basketball
It ended rather early at 11am,
so then i went to william's house for chess club gathering...
he nows stays in a new house, 4 room i think, at Sin Ming near Ai Tong there,
Very funny cos actually he shifted from Sin Ming to Sin Ming lol...
anyway, YenChuan, Wei Jie, ChongXin, Richie, ChunYong, and 2 of William's NJ friends came...
William still plays YuGiOH!!!
OMG!!! thats like so ancient!!!
Thats like from PRIMARY SCHOOL!!!!!
WOW come to think of it, We're like so old liao...
Primary 1 was like 1 decade AGO!!!

Anyway, we played supply, brigde, and the rest played maple o.o
Maple like change so much sia...
very waste time also...

haha, and so we come to my main point, which is that we played soccer at his house street soccer court...
played with an ang mo family...
Consisting of the father and a few small kids
and there was this boy of perhaps primary school...
soccer quite zai sia...
got owned by that boy...
The worse part is that we are scared of them and not the other way around...
Richie like kick the ball accidentally into the small girl's face...
instant reaction: cry
From that point on the other kids tackle us we just gave them the ball...
no wonder lose lol...

Actually soccer isnt really my game...
so after finish, weijie and i went to Cat High to play Basketball yay!!!
used to be crazy about basketball, playing during every single reccess during sec 2
had the other 4-8'09 guys there too...
KungYin, Deddy, Ben, WeiLun, Weijie and me :)

made use of the indoor sports hall that WE PAID FOR!!!!

Today was the student leaders investiture...
spent about 2 hours in the audi looking at people walking up and down the stage...
Yet, as i saw so many...
so many of my friends, up on stage,
I felt like i could have been one of them up on stage...
only if i wanted to...

only if i was super active in 1 CCA...
only if i decided to join the students council...
only if...
But i chose not to...
I chose not to live the hectic life of a student council member...
I chose not to live the draining life of a CCA leader...
The life that i had once chosen in secondary school...
The life that i enjoyed, yet endured through...

So as i sat there for 2 hours...
I wondered if i had made the right choice...

3 subjects require 1 mark to jump a grade...

perhaps this is karma or something...

Chemistry Practical today...
had to prepare standard solution for 2 times because the 1st time put too much water...
Then 2nd time prepare liao then put in pipette instead of burette,
then have to redo again...
Somemore this time is timed pratice...
very "Important" for the SPA exam...

SUAYNESS #3:
Doing EoM until EmO...
Internet laggy like siao...
Computer got problem, restarted 2 times while I doing Eom,
Then need to redo the same part again cos never save...
In the end cn only send HKL at 12:04am, 5minutes past 2359H

Today went to watch Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince...
went with Adwin, Nick, Joofei, Junhao, Hardy, Andy, Huiying, Jacq, and Huishan
1st we took a train all the way to woodlands causeway point...
We squeezed into a lift to the cinema...
inside the lift was also some random woman and her son...
and so the lift was super SQUEEZY with 12 people in it,

Nick: Eh stop it (squeezing) lah... You all from raffles leh...
Woman: Now then u know ar!!! >:( ... Raffles somemore...

I was like struggling to hold my laughter...
LMAO!!!!

Anyway we went all the way there to find out that there was a SUPER LONG QUEUE and very little seats left...
most probably couldn' fit all 10 of us...
so we decided to go to plan B

Go back to Yishun GV...
Bought the 3pm show for $8.50
By that time it was alreadylike 2.50pm
so we went to the Burger King to Pack our lunch..

Adwin says to cashier: Erm dun need plastic bag...
Cashier: Oh! watching movie ar???

Haha... Must be many people also smuggle food in like us...
Until the cashier used to it liao...

Harry Potter was quite nice...
but I was rather disappointed at the half blood prince part...
basically it was only 5 seconds of the show...
snape suddenly and randomly just say,
"YES! I am the half blood prince"
no explanation...

There's something i miss about cat high...

I could go around comparing results freely...

It makes me want to slacken...

Yea I'm a freak...
10 years in a guys school...
Sometimes people ask me what it's like to be in a all boys school...
or for that matter, single-sex schools...
Actually I think that being in a boys school is definitely more "boring"...
Yea, You can't deny that mixed schools like JC are more fun and interesting...

But of course it has its drawbacks...
lifa at JC can be distracting...
well, at least compared to single sex schools...
Isn't it a proven fact that single sex schools do relatively better than mixed schools in terms of acdemic results?
That's the whole point of single sex schools in the 1st place right???

Anyway, my new GP teacher, Eliz Wu...

Today is Youth day...
Today is Liew Wai Yinn's 17th Birthday!!!
Today is a gift...
That's why they call it the present...

Ok I know that was very lame =.=

Can't wait for the Mid-year exam results to be out!!!
maybe it's my competive nature...
or maybe it's because I might have to go for tuition if my results are not good enough...
But the term "good enough" itself is subjective...
What exactly is "good enough"...
Maybe based on the Mid-years,
I shouldn'e expect my results to be good at all...
a pass in all subjects should be sufficient...
I hope...

The A Level Chinese Oral exam is coming up...
my turn would be on Wednesday, the 2nd person to be tested...
I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing...
because my chinese was never one of my strengths...
I just hope that I don't need to retake it again next year...
I don't think I will use it in my A level results anyway i hope...
because it will only pull up my score if the score of my other subjects is worse...
which is quite unimaginable since my chinese is already so bad...

Anyway, I went to watch Ice Age 3:Dawn of the Dinosaurs on Saturday night...
It was super funny...
Especially the 3 baby T-rex...
Everyone should watch it!!!

I only regret not watching it earlier lol...
actually quite early already since it's like the 1st weekend for the show...

Term 3 will be a hectic term...
Project work deadlines plus a lot of other stuff...
Speaking of project work...
Our GPP is still not approved...
I don't know whats wrong with it lah...
Now I know why people don't like Project Work...
It's not the working with others part...
It's the "working with a teacher that finds fault with everything you write" part...

There are only somethings that will stop me from my dota game...
Somethings inspire me to study...

Yay!!!!
Now we can sit back, relax and laugh at the people still having exams...

while most other school would have completed the Mid-Years already...

Wanted to blog yesterday,
but was too tired...
after a 5 hour LAN session after the last paper - Chinese Listening Comprehension...
Ironically yesterday's dota session made me want to dota less again...
Its like all the games for last week were played in 5 hour...

Actually I also wanted to watch Ice Age 3 yesterday...
argh nvm...

so I don't know how it will turn out...

Econs I didnt manage to finish....
oh well...
Chinese as usual i was smoking my way through...

left 1 part blank...
left 15 mins for 15 MCQ questions...
Then at 5 mins to pens down, the teacher go and say pens down
scared the whole hall...
luckily it was false alarm...
but anyway at the actual pens down, I had 5 MCQ questions left...
so I filled all AAAAA lol

thursday: Mathematics...
The hardest maths paper I have ever done...
Left 4 parts blank...

Friday: Physics and Listening Compre
Physics was manageable...
managed to finish the paper...

Countdown to start of Mid-Years: 5 days
Countdown to end of Mid-Years: 10 days

The MOE should really consider closing schools for the H1N1...
There is already confirmed spread of H1N1 within the community in Singapore...
They say that schools will stop having assembly as a precautionary measure...
but for JCs, this is essentially useless!!!
This is because most JCs have Mid-years during the 1st week of term...
This means that trying to prevent mass gathering is useless since exams still need to be carried out...
furthermore, even if there were no exams,
most lessons in JCs are lectures, lectures and more lectures...
again, lectures are potential grounds for rapid spreading of the virus...
air conditioned and enclosed...

They say that H1N1 is not deadly enough...
so?
does it mean that we can allow it to spread unnecessarily?
The virus wil definitely spread...
its just a matter of time...
just like how it became from imported cases to community based cases...
and even if it doesnt kill,
is a population of sick people any more favourable??

MOE should order school closure after the Mid-years until the H1N1 problem is solved...
Isn't that the best solution...
Teachers can mark of papers during the "holiday",
while students like us can eat sleep play,
basically slack and celebrate :D

H1N1 Advisory...

1) You are advised to stay at home to do your revision and avoid coming to school until school reopens. Please also check your email regularly for regular updates.

2) If you have travelled to countries that have been considered by WHO to have sustained community transmission, as well as countries that have been reported to have exported cases (ie. Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, Dominican Republic, Japan, Mexico, Panama, Philippines, Spain, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States of America), please avoid coming to schools until school reopens.

3) We encourage you to do the following:
. Pay attention to announcements from the college and check MOH websites regularly.
. Avoid crowded areas and contact with anyone who appears unwell.
. Maintain high standards of personal hygiene at all times.

SINGAPORE: Singapore has confirmed another 16 new cases of H1N1.

Seven are local and nine has travel history, bringing the total number of H1N1 cases in Singapore to 142.
A third cluster of locally—infected cases has also been identified at popular nightclub Butter Factory at One Fullerton.
The new case is a 19—year—old Singaporean female student. She visited the club on June 17 when three previously reported cases were also there.
The Health Ministry has advised all those who had visited Butter Factory on June 17 to monitor their health and seek medical attention if they feel unwell.
The other new cases include two additional ones from the Riverlife Church cluster.
One is a 20—year—old Singaporean female student who attended a church function on June 13, while the other is a 12—year—old Singaporean boy who is a cousin to an earlier case in the cluster.
There were also three new cases with no travel history and no known contact with confirmed cases.
One is a 22—year—old Singaporean female student who participated in a church camp at Prince George’s Park from June 15 to 18.

Today started off with a half an hour long wait at J8 Macs...
Had breakfast there and headed off to Bishan library for some muggin with chunkeet...
but obviously we werent very productive...
most of the time we were just chating about random stuff...
about how E=mc^2 can be used to produce energy by destroying stuff...

anyway, after discovering how unproductive we were, we decided to be unproductive all the way lol...
went to yishun Ochird Country Club (AGAIN...) to play snooker and bowl...
learnt how to play snooker today...
because its like my 1st time and because both of us were like quite noob,
if you compared the pace of our game to the pace of the game of the next table,
it would be something like 4 games is to 1 game...
yes!
when we finally completed our 1st and only game only after 2 hours...

bowled 3 games after that....
scores were deproving...
haiz...
must be hand getting tired...

Bowling didn't actually go well today...
since SO MANY people like pangsei at the last minute...
so in the end there was only nat lesa adwin huishan me and nick...
actually huishan only came for lunch...
lunch at Northpoint food mall...

lets ignore the price of the food since food in all food courts are expensive because we have to help pay for their air-con...
but drinks!

okay, Northpoint food court is CONDEMNED!!!

and lesa bought this Mexican chicken cheese thing...
looked like a pancake...
and tasted like...
the thing was as soft as scrambled egg,
but a part of it was very hard chicken,
and the whole thing reeked of cheese!!!
not that I don't like cheese,
but yuck! the combination made it very appetite-losing...

and so we decided to save it for NICK!
who was late!!!
erm i meant "who was late, AS USUAL"
but he was like 1.5hours late...
so we decided to walk to Yishun SAFRA 1st and meet him there...

But when we reached there, there were no free lanes...

and so we decided to go play pool 1st :)
nothing much to say about that...
except that lesa's incessant reminder of the chicken cheese at adwin caused him to miss the 8 ball for a total of 6 or 7 times...

in the end, we still had to play bowling right?
cos that was like our main purpose...
so we went to Orchid Country Club for bowling
squeezed 5 people into a taxi...
the taxi driver was kind enough to pick us up :)

1st game:100(sounds nice right? lol)
2nd game:96(Screwed up the last part if not can get 100 again haha)

Went to the open field behind Northpoint to watch a display of fireworks with my parents...

Today marks the end of the Special Olympics...

well, at least it marks the end of our part as volunteers,

but I not very sure about the other non track events...

It was held in NUS track...

which was like SUPER FAR from Bishan...

Almost got lost finding my way around...

Yesterday, when going home, I took the wrong bus...

wanted to take 198 but took 197 instead...

in the end ended up in Chinatown o.O

lucky from there got MRT...

This morning, I grown smarter hehe...

I took MRT all the way to Bourna Vista MRT early in the morning...

the saw lots of AJC people...

"yes! at least i know that im on the right track..."

then went down to the bustop, and saw more AJC people...

BUT the scary thing was,

NO ONE TOOK 198!!!

I was like the only AJC person on that bus...

the feeling is super scary when u take a bus that your friend tells you is right but sees no one else who is going to the same place taking it...

somemore i also not familiar with the place

anyway, luckily for me, huiying was right about 198...

lol and so i reached the NUS track on time yay!

Timekeeping is not an easy job lor!!!

contrary to popular belief...

I do not just sit there in the shade pressing the stopwatch...

In the 1st place, try sitting on that wooden plank for hours and see if your butt aches...

somemore your legs will sore from stoning in that position for so many hours...

and I wasnt exactly in the shade...

the cover the timer stand thing was vertically above,

but the sun was diagonally shining at me!!!

Struggling to finish the maths homework by AJ...
8 pages worth of practise questions and 3 hours worth of mock paper...
hmm...

Actually there is this little known fact...
Did you know that homework are not meant to be finished...
even some teachers would agree...
the multitude of homework would alway be undone or half done...
Teachers give homework not for you to do them completely...
thats why some teachers dont scold you when you dont complete their work...
having homework is actually a test of time management...
How to you do your homework in such a way that you SEEM to be doing a lot but with minimal time and effort?
the answer is...
always do only half of the homework that is NOT due tmr...
then you can always finish up the other half at school or the day before its due...
haha...
even if you dont complete it...
it will SEEM like you tried LOL...

Went to see Conspiracy with CK yesterday...
he so randomly smsed me and asked me out...

Conspiracy was an okay movie i guess...
the action in it is quite nice, especially the car chase :P
but if you rate it based on its storyline...
you will be rather disappointed...

ok today wasnt exactly a very fruitful day...
started the day shouting on my bed...
after realising that the time was 11am...
luckily it was holiday,
if not i'll be blacklisted for being late...
and so i chionged out of the house...
to AJC for a physics lesson...
reached school at about 1130am...

went through physics mock paper...
until about 1230...
went to play LAN after that...

as you can see, i never did much work...
somehow i feel like i want to do work...
but yet...
maybe i do need a studying buddy or something lol...

The Last day of school was...
surprisingly BORING!!!
I mean,Any other day at school might have been equally boring...
BUT yesterday was TOO boring to be called the last day of school!!!

Because my GPP is about future pandemic,
I realised that there are many many loopholes in Singapore's measures against pandemic...
luckily the H1N1 influenza is not that deadly...
if not we will really be spammed by the virus...

Firstly, Singapore is unable to detect influenza cases at the point or entry.
be it ferry, airport etc...
actually this is not our fault,
but more because of the nature of the virus...
the symptoms show only one day after the person has the flu...
so actually there's not much we can do...
since the person can come in w/o symptoms but develop symptoms in SG
but because of that, we are vulnerable...

Secondly, only people who visit doctors will be detected and identified as suspect cases if they are infected...
What if they choose not to visit the doctor???
they will be spreading the flu virus where ever they go...
on the bus, on the MRT, at coffee shops and hawker centres...
their spreading potential is just enormous...

Thirdly, even if they go see the doctor and are identified as a case...
contact tracing of every single person that was in contact with them with be extremely inefficient and impractical...
How do you find every person who took the same bus, took the same MRT, ate at the same coffee shop as the infected person?
and how long does it take to track down these people?
by the time they are tracked down, they could already have infected many others...

Fourthly, (if there's such a word) now that you have identified them, you are going to quarantine them...
but is home quarantine even practical???
how do you monitor hundreds or even thousands or people in their own home???
even if you could, it is definitely not an effective use of resources...

lastly, there are many potential "spreading areas" for influenza...
Coffee shops and hawker centres are one of them...
there are so many of them all around Singapore...
and Singaporeans often have their meals there...
even tourists come to Singapore to taste out local fare at hawker centres...
But we can see that the hygiene levels at our coffee shops and hawker centres are lacking...
ask around and see how many people tell you that our hawker centres are clean???
the Gelang Serai food poisoning incident that killed 2 people just proves my point...

So is Singapore really safe from H1N1??
The only reason i think the government is not changing the alert level is because H1N1 is not as deadly...
but if a new strain of deadly influenza strikes...
Singapore will crumble!!!

Sorry to sound so apocalyptic...
anyway the government should change the alert level to orange since its a much nicer colour :P

Wah it been so longggg since i last blogged...
blame it on GPP...
have been sleeping at 1-2am the past few nights...
I havent even have time to dota!!! lol

Bus drivers can really be very irritating...
Today, I randomly decided to take the bus home instead of the MRT...
since i have been taking the MRT everyday...
as I walked to the bus stop,
my bus drove passed...
and slowed down nearing the bus stop...
At first i didnt bother to run, because i thought that i would surely miss the bus...
but the irritating bus driver slowed down, making it look like he knows i want to take the bus...
and so I ran towards the bus stop...
only to eat the dust of the stupid bus...

Anyway, I waited for the next bus for about 5-10mins...
I slept all the way on the bus ride home...
was very tired for some reason...
when the bus finally reached bishan, i woke up and got ready to get off the bus...
then the irritating bus driver did something stupid again...
Her legs must have been vibrating or something when she stepped on the break...
and the bus was like move stop move stop...
very irritating you know!!!
Argh!!!

SBS should got train their bus drivers to be less irritating...

maybe we can sleep late and wake up even later...
but at the end, the work load is no different fron that of school days...
It is merely a consolation prize...
somethng that we think we look forward to that gives us some motivation...
and the worst part is that there is mid year exam right after this so called holiday...

After a grueling 12 hours of chess competition from 8am-8pm...
I am finally back home...
the Nanyang JC chess competition...
AJC got 3rd in the Team Category...
with VJC in 2nd and NYP in 1st...
Maybe because weijie didnt join this time...
Anyway,
I'm actually quite happy that I got 3rd in the individual category this time YAY! :D
a slight improvement from the 5th that i always get...

Actually I very lucky today sia...
scored 5.5 points/7points as usual...
I only lost to yihao (1st place) and drew with this innova JC guy...
And you would never believe how i drew the game...
I was losing by a whole 车 early game...
but somehow i managed to eat up all his 兵s and force a draw by 单车对士象全

GPP is like a TOTAL FAILURE!!!
Don't wanna talk about it...

Once again a magic trick was carried out today @ KFC...
To the naked eye, it may seem that tomato and chili sauce serve only the purpose of tantalising our taste buds...
But if you study the chemistry of the sauces, you will realise that they actually contain enzymes...
these enzymes have the potential to cause a rapid exothermic reaction at the right conditions...
Mix these sauces on a piece of tissue, and you will realise that nothing happens...
Thats because you have yet to add the special ingredient needed for this magic trick to work...
According to the Law of Pokkadots, enzymes of exothermic nature will not react unless a solvent is added as a medium for reaction...
And so you can proceed to add water...
ice water would be best, since the rapid melting of the ice would provide indication that heat is indeed produced...
Now, the enzymes will start to corrode the tissue paper...
the tissue becomes more translucent as the enzymes make it thinner and thinner...
the exothermic reaction occurs,
releasing heat...
Now put your hand close to the solution to feel the heat...
you can put your face too if you want :P
Now, wait...

and you will feel nothing...
but before you can withdraw your hand, sensing that something is wrong...

Part 1:Concepts
Understand ALL concepts taught during the lecture...
people often think that all they need to do in lecture is copy notes and go home and digest...
Those are effective only for muggers with too much free time to spare...
for normal folk like us wh would rather lie on the bed and sleep upon reaching the house...
We must understand all concepts that are taught immediately...
concepts are the most important things that we need to know...
It is the building block that enables us to do the more difficult questions...
and if you dont understand the concepts immediately,
you can always ask someone who does during the lecture itself...
rather than go home,
"o.o i dont understand this concept..."
"Tmr i go ask around"
and forget all about it by tmr...
One way to test your understanding would be to DO exercises in the lecture notes before the lecturer...
always be slightly faster than the lecturer's teaching pace...
attempt to understand the lecture notes before the lecturer goes through it...
This way, you will be effectively going through the notes 2 times subconsciously...

Part 2:Formulas and definitions
Formulas and definitions are usually the ONLY things you need to memorise in Physics...
This makes physics a less vomit-able subject...
which is one of the reasons I like it...
I think that the most effective way of memorising formulas and definitions in Physics is by asking someone who erm...
well, mugs :P
when you ask them, you will somehow remember better...
It works for me...
and if possible, do not memorise blindly...
learn how the formulas or definitions are derived if its not too complicated...
that would also aid in remembering...

Part 3: Tutorials
Always aim to understand how to do EVERY single question...
for me, if i dont know how to do one question,
I will keep thinking or ask around for help...
don't give up easily,
it is better to understand it from friends than from the teacher...
and so when stuck at a question, don't skip it immediately...
just keep thinking...
Somehow it helps alot during tests...
When you think about a question when doing tutorial,
you will spend LESS time thinking when doing similar questions during tests...
Time during tests is definitely more important isnt it?
Aim to finish the tutorial whenever possible...
and wait for people to ask you questions...
It has been proven that teaching others allows one to remember things better...
the info retension rate or something like that is 90%...

Well basically thats all that I've been doing for the past few months...
Working smart is always the better option...
because its suitable for lazy people like me :P

Today was special olympics preliminaries day!!!
The whole class went there with the exception of nick...
who, as quoted by him:
"felt a lot of pain and is going to see a doctor"
Lols...

Anyway, I was the timekeeper for the track events together with adwin, hokit and junhao.
Being a timekeeper was surely an enlightening experience...
It totally changed my perceptions towards the mentally disabled in our society...
They may be different from the rest of us,
but they are definitely also useful members of society...
they just need more time and opportunity...

They actually can ran very fast!
in fact, extremely fast...
I dare say that some of them are much faster than most of us average people...
the fastest 1 round recorded was 53secs!!!
Gay indeed!

Being a timekeeper is not as easy as it seems...
we have to take timings according to the positions in which they come in...
this means that when there's a neck to neck finish,
even the slightest hesitation would cause a discrepancy in the timings...
Sitting under the scorching sun...
and have distractions somemore!
I getting ready to start the time suddenly can hear a voice from the side:
"Wah Guo Jie why so serious"
I almost turned around, missing the timing =.=

Anyway, the thing ended at about 1 plus...
went for lunch with the class at AMK Macs...

Today, lets talk about time management...
How do we manage our time?
Everyone has 24 hours a day,
but why does it seem like some people have more time then others?

This question occured to me when I set my PM on msn as
"I'm a Dota-ing Melvyn"
and my dearest PD tutor,
msned me back
"Wah still have time to dota... (shows goods time management)"
I was like =.=

anyway, some people wonder where do I find time to dota???
well, the answer is you just have to set a time for dota...
and stick to it...
do not exceed it as much as you can...
As for other stuff, you can do it after that...
and if you don't have time after that,
then there's always in school...

In fact, School IS the place for MUGGING...
and as far as possible,
it should be the ONLY place for mugging...
unless of course for sertain exceptions such as right before exams...

Homework, as ironic as it sounds, should be done IN SCHOOL!!!
Do it during breaks,
because no one will call you a mugger because they either already done it at home(MUG),
or they are also doing it with you :P lols
If that is not enough,
there is always LECTURE
during lectures, you should do the homework of the subject of the lecture...
Maths lecture do maths homework...
physics lecture do physics homework...
and periodically, when you realise that the lecturer has stopped talking,
look up and do whatever exercise there is...
This allows you to both keep up with the lecture and complete your homework :D
If that fails, do it during tutorial...
off course I don't mean do other subject homework in that subject tutorial...
Best to do same subject homework once again...
This allows to fully immerse yourself in that subject for that that 1 hour
and then again, you won't neglect 1 subject because of another...
there will be roughly optimal allocation of time for every subject.

So thats the way to play dota everyday...
A dota a day keeps excessive mugging away...

Celebrated Mother's Day on Saturday at my grandma's house...

Then on Sunday, I went for this Mother's Day Dinner @ a CC with my paternal side relatives...

WAH!!!

the dinner costs $20 per person!

I was shocked when I first heard the amount...

It was a, perhaps, 8 or 9 course meal with nothing really expensive besides a fish and some prawns!!!

I think that it is rather expensive considering the fact that it is at the hall of a CC...

if the average price of every dish is $12,

then a table for 10 would cost $108...

and per person would only be $10.80!!!

And the so-called "entertainment",

If you like old women and old men dancing on the stage skimpily dressed, singing, or rather, making noises at such a high volume that could be heard from across the street,

then I'm sorry to insult your taste...

Doing the GP monthly quiz spark my interest in GP...

Wow this week passed really fast...
Had NAPFA on tuesday...
Passed it :D
with bronze i think...
I know its nothing compared to some people with silver or gold...

Now I know why so many people find PI so frustrating...
imagine having your PI draft graded ME...
then following the comments by the tutor, you change your PI accordingly...

then will suddenly question the parts that you didn't change cos there were no comments...

The Pandemic alert level is changed back to yellow,
But I think the probability of H1N1 virus coming to our shores is still high...
the reason it was changed to low was because the virus was not as deadly as originally feared...
Scientists have discovered that the H1N1 virus kills less people than the seasonal flu...
and that current flu medicines are still effective against them...
BUT, they also know that it spreads much faster than SARS...
with a longer infectious period...
A person may have gotten the virus even before symptomes are present...
and during the time which the virus is not discovered,
many people can get infected easily...
Imagine if it really came to Singapore...
All of us may get infected without even knowing...
and just like how ODTs and masks were sold out overnight,
What if there are no stock of medicine for the flu???
Singapore has a very high population density...
This magnifies the effects of a virus outbreak...
It's not that I support taking temperatures 2 times everyday,
but I think that lowering the alert level will send the wrong message to everyone...
well, thats just what i think...
H1N1 will come sooner or later...
It's just how prepared we are...

Went for a briefing about some China Immersion thing at the end of the year...
Sounded rather...
I don't know lah...
I've never been to China before...
It might be a good chance to check it out...
but then again...
Everything in reality comes with a price to pay...
and for this case it is a pocket burning $1900/=
Inclusive of airfare, lodging, 3 meals, etc...
Subsidies? I don't really know if there is...
Didn't bother to ask anyway...

Then again...
there are the non-price determinants...
the opportunity cost of going for this thing...
the next best alternative is the OCIP...
fyi, OCIP is Overseas Community Involvement Programme
which is also during the end of the year...
definitely a cheaper option since it would most probably be in Indonesia or Thailand...
OCIP will definitely be more popular...

but then again,
I already signed up for this A*star award...
need to do research for "A FEW" weeks during the end of year holidays...
so I would already be tied down...
hopefully it doesn't clash with OCIP...

OMG!!!
Sports Carnival was FUN!!!!
lols...
Did bouldering and laser quest.
Bouldering was super tough...
especially when you are trying to switch legs,
your fingers must have a good grip...
notice i use the word fingers...
thats cause the hole in the protruding thingys are only big enough to fit your fingers...
some dun even have holes...
imagine having ALL your body weight supported by your fingers as you try to switch legs...
ouch...
Fingers were red after the bouldering...
but I still managed to climb 9 tiles...
YAY!!!

Laser Quest was the main attraction...
the game is basically capture the flag,
except that it is now capture the "cone".

24/09 also got play :D
If i remember correctly,
Yihao, Keith, Victor, Shinying, and Livvi in 1 team...
actually there was only 1 team LOL
anyway i didnt play against them so it doesnt really matter haha...

I had a funny idea...
since we ae supposed to shoot the sensors of the game thing,
what if we used our guns to cover up the sensor...
this way, we would be immune to shots haha...
good idea right?
too bad it cant be used because the sensor senses the whole body...

I played tgt with Hokit Joofei Nat and Munaw...
We WON!!!

unfortunately, nearing the end of the base there was a tree...
there was where disaster struck...
The tree brach was super low...
like 1 metre from the ground only...
furthemore, the ground was muddy due to the rain in the morning...
and so i tried to duck and chiong pass the tree...
and realised that I was too tall...
"BANG"
Head hit the tree and I fell backwards...
we still won the game because joofei went to pick it up and bring it back to base...
but what can I say...
"OUCH!"
oh well...
stupid me...
I was still laughing at my own stupidity when i got up...

Sitting at the track, I finished up my 2 econs essays...
haiz very slpy now...
looks like i'll pass dota fo today...
